Simply stated, from idea to completion, Land Gate Custom Homes is the top full-service builder in central NJ primarily servicing but not limited to Morris, Essex, and Union Counties.
Land Gate Custom Homes is run by its founder, Steve Goepel. He plays an active role in the construction of his new homes, working closely with clients through every phase of building, from design to completion, and also being the general contractor on every job. Land Gate hires the finest construction personnel in the area, and they have all been working successfully together in the Chatham area for the past 16 years. The Land Gate sub-contractors are primarily all small businessmen themselves, most of whom hire only one or two employees. This practice manifests itself in a tremendous quality of work, having the owner of each of these small companies being the key tradesman present and working on each job, as opposed to the practice of hiring large companies and/or inexperienced workers seeking on-the-job training.
We offer each client a team of designers free of any additional charges. Clients have the option of working with our designers or selecting/hiring their own.
Steve prides himself on his reputation as both a quality builder and a fair and honest person. Land Gate’s goal for every job is to ensure that their clients get the best possible product while enjoying the building process as much as we do. Steve also has a great reputation for follow-up with his clients as he stands behind his work long after the job is done. Land Gate is best known for their quality finish work. about the builder
Steve is a lifelong resident of northern New Jersey. A graduate of River Dell High School, Steve attended Colgate University and was then drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 1971 as a quarterback. Later, he was the 3rd string quarterback on the 1972 New England Patriots team before ending his NFL career to begin a 27-year teaching and coaching career. Steve taught high school math and was the head football coach at Ramapo College for 4 years in addition to being the head football coach at Pascack Hills HS for 6 years.
Steve broke into the building business in the 1980s while teaching. His company, Land Gate Custom Homes, just celebrated its 30th year of continuous business in NJ in February, 2017. Since that time, Land Gate has built in such upscale New Jersey locations as Ridgewood, the Rio Vista development in Mahwah, in Chatham since 2004 and most recently in Westfield, Madison, Short Hills, etc.
Steve has been married to his wife Cathy for 37 years. They have 4 children who were raised in Chatham, and have now all graduated college and have careers of their own.
