This vision has driven their small business model to enjoy a client base that is earned largely through client referral or repeat business.
Simply stated, from idea to completion, Land Gate Custom Homes is the top full-service builder in central NJ primarily servicing but not limited to Morris, Essex, Somerset and Union Counties.
Our services include property search, overall process management, new construction, addition/renovations and interior design. We provide prospective clients with complimentary home walk throughs with homes they are interested in buying. We also have our real estate license to help clients find their property for new builds or homes for addition/renovations.
Land Gate Custom Homes is run by its founder, Steve Goepel and daughter Ellie Goepel.
about the builder
Steve is a lifelong resident of northern New Jersey. A graduate of River Dell High School, Steve attended Colgate University and was then drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 1971 as a quarterback. Later, he was the 3rd string quarterback on the 1972 New England Patriots team before ending his NFL career to begin a 27-year teaching and coaching career. Steve taught high school math and was the head football coach at Ramapo College for 4 years in addition to being the head football coach at Pascack Hills HS for 6 years.
Steve broke into the building business in the 1980s while teaching. His company, Land Gate Custom Homes, just celebrated its 30th year of continuous business in NJ in February, 2017. Since that time, Land Gate has built in such upscale New Jersey locations as Ridgewood, the Rio Vista development in Mahwah, in Chatham since 2004 and most recently in Westfield, Madison, Short Hills, etc.
Steve has been married to his wife Cathy for 37 years. They have 4 children who were raised in Chatham, and have now all graduated college and have careers of their own.
